Cowardly or Bravery ?

Okay folks this post is just a response or continuation post to my suicide post. By killing herself, is Hedda Gabler brave or cowardly?.............hmm this gets tha juices flown... I think that Hedda is a coward. A coward is a person who lacks courage. Hedda was afraid of "scandal" and what society thought of her. Hedda kills herself because she lacked the courage to live with "scandal." She does not wish to be Tesman's wife nor does she wish to be a mother. But because of her fear of tainting her reputation, she lacked the courage to do something about it.

i dont think that hedda is a coward. rather, i believe she is a victim of the oppression enforced and imposed upon any woman that attempts to raise their position in the societal power hiearchies that men have dominated for so long. however, in retrospect, i think that there is validity to the claim that she is "copping out" of her life because she can't handle someone else, let alone a male, have some sort of power and control over her life. i think that at that point hedda loses some of her validity. but i think that either way you cut it, hedda is a victim.

Honestly, i kinda see Hedda as a coward myself, but a victim as well like kwall says. But she was the one who held the responsibility for her becoming a victim. Her actions made a prime target.
