Why does Hedda commit suicide?
For the most part i have a brief understanding on why i think she does such a sinful act.She commits suicide because she sees no way out of her situation. She has been replaced in Georges eyes by Thea. Brack has power over her by blackmailing her. And her position now is that she has no power over anyone which isn't what she wants, all the way through the play she has wanted power over people, she made Eilert drink, and effectively killed him by giving him the gun. She hasn't really had any female role models; no mother figure mentioned and so has been brought up in the male atmosphere. She was used to being rich & so only married George on the promise that he was going to be rich and successful and when that fell through she was stuck with no way out. All of these factors combined makes the suicide justifiable.

Ok so I don't think that her suicide was justifiable. Hedda is a straight up P-U-N-K! I'm not surprised that she commits suicide. Instead of dealing with the consequences of her behavior, she takes the easy way out. No one forced her to marry Tesman or give Lovborg the gun. Hedda made those decisions but was not woman enough to live with them.
Hedda's suicide was justiable according to her reasons which was to escape her disappointing life. She might have punked out but she escaped all her troubles and tried to demonstrate what a beautiful death is unlike Eilert's death which was described as an ugly death. If Hedda could speak she would argue her death was justified because she did escape her disappointing life.
Up this late but yea..... I agree, Hedda can't handle the consequences of her own action. She no longer had power over anyone and that's what i think she strives for the whole play. She tries to gain control over everyone and instead she loses Lovborg, Geroge, is overwhelmed by Brack, and in competition with Thea.... so she takes the easiest way out... Escaping blackmail, the loss of control and the challenge that is being opposed to her.
